While the true story this movie is based on is fascinating this movie is not.
It's full of mediocre special effects and screeching violin music. The story line is hard to follow.

The script writers and directors missed many opportunities to explore the really scary parts of the true story:

1) why the haunting phenomena occured with that particular family.
2) The main character is suffering from terminal cancer and sees dead people. Why does this phenomena happen ?
3) The house used to be a mortuary where the former owner's practiced necromancy. More could have been done with the topic but it was just used as the "excuse" why the house was haunted and never fully explored.
4)The reverends character could have been explored more deeply. He had experience with the supernatural, how did he get it ?
5) why did the house and the bodies it contained have to be burned to free the souls trapped there ? and was this really the problem ?was this even part of the true story ? I dont remember that part...

Don't bother renting it.
