When we are setting up an investigation, and the property owner/rep asks to be part of the investigation, what is CAPEs position?

This is a good question! I didn't think of that, but you would probably run into it occasionally. We will wait for Al's answer, but I would imagine it would be handled on a case-by-case basis based on the individual and their attitude/personality/etc.

Below statement is directly from our web page under what to expect.

Unless the client is a team member. Then they will be allowed to be in the investigation area. But for the most part they should stay away and let the team do their job. You can run into to many problems if done otherwise. Evidence tampering becomes a big problem. There are ways to keep this from happening but some can be messy, and others down right noisy. And if I suspect that someone has tampered with the equipment or evidence in some way I call a halt to the investigation right then and there.

It is also important that the clients understand that while an investigation is in progress, we ask that clients try to occupy their time with other activities while the team investigates.  It's best that the residents wait somewhere out of the area of investigation. They can continue to stay at the location being investigated but, we prefer that the client does not involve him or herself or interfere in any way with the investigation. We want our investigators to be as non-biased as possible. We come into an investigation with open minds. We let the true evidence stand on its own. We certainly understand the concerns and curiosity that a client may have when it comes to how an investigation is performed, and what evidence may be found. Unfortunately, most of our evidence isn't revealed until after we have left the premises and all the investigators review all of the evidence.

Once the evidence has been analyzed, a meeting is set up with the clients to discuss the team's findings. Follow up investigations may be required in cases where the evidence was inconclusive or corrupted. All return visits made by the team are at the discretion of the Client. The Client is always given copies of any and all evidence collected by C.A.P.E.
